Appiatse Explosion: Chief Inspector of Mines Interdicted – Lands Minister

Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Lawyer Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission Mr Martin Ayisi to interdict the Chief Inspector of Mines Mr Kofi Adjei with immediate effect following the explosion that killed 17 including three children and injured over 40 people on the 20th January 2022 in the Appiatse community in the Western region.

A 20:00hrs release Friday 21st January revealed the Chief Inspector of Mines according to Regulations 2 of the Minerals and Mining (Explosive) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2177) the Chief Inspector of Mines is responsible for the supervision of the manufacture, storage, transportation, and use of explosives for mining and mine support services.
