An April 2021 Media Ethics report by the Media Foundation for West Africa in Accra, Ghana, has cited Ghanaweb.com as the highest offender of media ethical principles in its operations among some twenty six media organizations in the country.
The report which covers 15th April to 30th April, reveals the web news portal maintained its position on the radar after it topped the radar in the 1st to 15th April ethics report.
“During the monitoring periods in the month under review, Ghanaweb.com consistently outperformed other media platforms in violating a number of principles. For a total of ninety-five violations (95) violations recorded, the web news portal garnered fifty-five (55)”, a statement shared with www.zamireports.com said.
Six other media organizations namely; Power FM, Oman FM. Accra FM, Peace FM, Happy FM, and Daily Guide were also cited for same violations in the same period.
They media organizations violated the “Decency, Accuracy, Good Taste and Public Sensibilities, Prejudice and Stereotyping, Facts and Opinions, Fairness, Sensitivity to Persons in Greif or Distress, and Public Interest Value” indicators according to the report.
The MFWA’s media ethics monitoring activity is part of the organization’s project on Enhancing media professionalism to inspire public confidence and support for press freedom in Ghana, which is being implemented with funding support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
