Ghana: Techstripped Africa is mentoring the next generation of techpreneurs

Graduating from the university in Ghana back in the days came with some assurance of landing a good job at least, a decent one to sustain you but that has changed, perhaps for the not so pleasant experiences graduates are faced within the current dispensation. “Only 10% of graduates find jobs after their first year of leaving school”, a report by the Institute of Statistics, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) states, evidence of the teething graduate unemployment in Ghana which could be described as the West African country’s pandemic in waiting.

A recent statement by the Finance Minister Mr Ken Ofori Atta at the graduation ceremony of students of the University for Professional Studies – Accra, urging the graduates to venture into entrepreneurship because “government’s payroll is full” which received a lot of backlashes from a section of the citizenry was the stack reality behind the smokescreen.

To complement efforts by government and private organizations in tackling youth unemployment, Techstripped Africa, a startup accelerator and tech advocacy network founded by 2021 Mandela Washington Fellow, Kwame Owusu Ansah aims at raising the next generation of technopreneurs from universities in Ghana. The mentoring session which is its second phase will bring industry experts to share their knowledge and skills with students on selected topics to aid them in identifying and maximising opportunities as well as set them on a personal leadership journey.

The second edition which is scheduled for Tuesday 26th October 2021 is expected to run till end of the year. It will feature mentors across Africa from different aspects of the digital economy. It will feature the likes of industry players like the Chief Information Officer of Stanbic Bank Ghana – Albert Yirenkyi Danquah.

Topics to be explored include; How to position yourself as a student in technology, Identifying the opportunities in cybersecurity, and many more.

Tech enthusiasts can join this insightful session virtually at 18:00GMT via Zoom using this link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83475513093 pwd=enMvNTJRcFFXY3hMODc4QWxpZ2kydz09.
