The Chairperson of the Appiatse Support Fund Committee Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee is charging the victims of the 20th January explosion to exercise some level of patience as donations begin to trickle in.
The funds will be used to reconstruct a green community for the victims and also restore lost livelihoods. But Dr Aryee says due to the amount envisaged to realise these two thematic projects, the victims will “have a waiting spirit”.
“This message should get to the people of Appiatse that donations are coming but due to the level of destruction and the plan to build a green community befitting of them, they have to be patient a bit,” Dr Aryee said.
Dr Aryee was speaking after the Board of the Minerals Commission presented a cheque of GhC 1,000.000 to the fund on 3rd February in Accra. She is optimistic that the purpose of the hashtag “Obiaa ntua bi” (everyone should contribute) will become a reality.

The Board Chair of the Minerals Commission, Madam Barbara Oteng Gyasi reiterated the government’s resolve to ensure mining companies adhere to the regulations.
“We will facilitate the ongoing review of the legal, regulatory, health, safety and technical regime of the mining industry under the Minerals and Mining explosive regulations (2012), LI 2177 as well as the Minerals and Mining Health and Safety, Technical Regulations 2012, LI 2182,” Gyasi hinted.
She noted that they are hopeful the gesture will also “ginger” others to donate to the fund.
