The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Mr Benito Owusu-Bio has praised Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, for his resolute opposition to unlawful small-scale mining, also known as “galamsey” in the Western North Region of Ghana.

The Paramount Chief is being applauded after he declared during the opening of the Stool Lands Regional Office that he will no longer permit any type of small-scale mining operations in his area, regardless of status or position, due to the willful destruction of lands and waterbodies in the Western North.

Mr Owusu-Bio praised Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II on the sidelines of his working visit to the region. He was inspecting initiatives under the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) where he revealed that his goal for this inspection was to make sure that the funds raised have been used effectively as well as to act as a source of accountability for the Ghanaian people.

For the Region’s ongoing growth, the Deputy Minister anticipated that new initiatives would be started and old ones would be maintained.

The Western North Region’s Mpomam road, which has been stabilized and is slated to receive 22,100 cedis in tarring funding, a 1-unit KG school block at Bosomoiso, and the administration building for Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School are just a few of the projects that were visited.
