Zarawu is a native of Kasalgu in the Sagnerigu Municipality of the Northern region. ZAMI Reports caught up with during an assignment in her community. She could not tell her age, the name of her school, and her class.
The closure of schools by the president of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in March to curb the spread of the novel corona virus saw her relocate to the Yoogu community in the Tolon district where she has since lived with her grand mother.
Her daily routine under the pandemic is the sale of a delicacy she calls “gari-cake”, a combination cassava flakes and burnt sugar which she trades in the community of about eight hundred people moving from house-to-house or just sitting under one of the trees in her compound.
Though her grand mother confirmed to ZAMI Reports that Zarawu is a pupil of a school in the Kasalgu community, she was unable to provide details of her school neither was she able to provide details of her age. The story of Zarawu is no different from many children born in parts of the Northern region.
