The Vice President of Ghana His Excellency Dr Mahamadou Bawumia has presented an amount of GHS 100,000 to victims of Thursday October 1, floods in parts the West Mamprusi Municipality of the NorthEast region.
At least ten people have died in recent floods following days of torrential rains and the spilling of the Bagre dam. Some 206 communities have been affected with at least 30,000 displaced in all six districts of the region.
“I suspended all my campaign and rushed home to see for myself what has happened to my people. Unfortunately, most of the house were built with mud so they have fallen”.
Thursday floods is said to have occurred after the Diani and Guabullga community dams burst.
The National Disaster Management Organization also presented relief items ranging from mattresses, cooking oil, bags of rice, bags of sugar, bags of maize, tins of cream milk and packs of mosquito coil to the victims.
Mahamadou Bawumia pledged to support reconstruct collapsed homes in four communites namely; Gaagbini, Gbani, Banawa, and Namiyala.
“We will support them build their houses again and those houses will be built in a way it will withstand flooding”, Dr Mahamadou Bawumia adds.
At least fifty seven homes have collapsed in the four communites.
One person was reported dead in the Gbani community. The boy is said to have fallen in a bridge on Thursday October 1.
This brings to ten (10) the number of persons who have died between September 7, and October 1.
