S/R: Kafaba chief “arrested” in Damongo after refusing to honour a police invitation

The chief of Kafaba, Seidu Yahaya has been arrested in Damongo in the West Gonja district of the Savannah region.

Briefing the Savannah  Regional Correspondent of Multimedia Isaac Nonya in Damongo, the Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service DCOP Enoch Adutwum Bediako revealed the “chief was arrested today around 10am in Damongo and we’re interrogating him for his side of the story”.

Chief Seidu Yahaya was invited by the Salaga Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday July 26 to report to the station on Monday July 27 to assist the police with investigations after the lynching of Akua Denteh,90, over witchcraft suspicion.

However, the chief declined the invitation and had not shown up as of the close of day Monday. Information gathered by ZAMI Reports reveals he had insisted the police in Salaga gave him an assurance that he would not be detained.

This assurance including an assurance from the Gonjaland Traditional Council “that the council will protect him from being detained” were his demands before he would honour the invitation according a source close to the Gonjaland Traditional Council.

“The Traditional Council however urged him to honour the invitation and also cooperate with the Police”,the source added.

Chief Seidu Yahaya according to DCOP Enoch Adutwum Bediako “is expected to assist with his side of the story”.

Three other persons, one teacher Aliu, Bumaye, Ashley, and Manafo who are believed to have fled the community had also been invited by the Police.
