TAMASCO: Examination Officer requests for police protection as irate students storm his bungalow with torches of fire

The Examination Officer of the Tamale Senior High School in the Northern region, Alex Narh Mohammed has revealed he would need police protection as he readies to invigilate the Social Studies paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

This follows an attempted attack on him by some irate students of the school on the night of Tuesday August 4.

A video available to ZAMI Reports shows students wielding cudgels, machetes, and torches of fire while chanting unprinted sentences like “we will kill Alex, “we will kill them all” let us pass”, and “we are mad”.

“The intention of the irate students was to attack me at my residence”, Mr. Narh told ZAMI Reports.

However, the Senior House Master, George Ofori Wiafe and some teachers prevented the students while they made their way towards the bungalow of the exams officer at about 08:00pm.

“The senior house master and some other teachers met them on their way and stopped them”.

Mr. Alex Narh Mohammed who doubles as the Principal House Master of the school whom the students claim was “too strict” during the Integrated Science paper on Monday August 3 said he simply followed the West African Examinations Council’s invigilation guidelines.

“I did nothing outside WAEC’s invigilation guidelines, I did not touch a string of hair on any student, neither did I sack any student from the examination hall”.

“Our exams master was accused of not allowing them (students) to cheat”, a teacher who spoke on anonymity told ZAMI Reports.

With three more core papers namely Social Studies, Mathematics, and English Language to end the examination, Mr. Narh says he will need police protection.

“The students are writing Social Studies tomorrow and will write two more in the subsequent weeks and with this, I will need police protection because I do not know how they will react after each core paper”.

The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Headquaters, Superindent Kwabena Otuo Acheampong comfirmed the incident revealed, the police will have to conduct an investigation on the security situation before a decision to provide police protection is taken.

“Every situation is determined on its merit, the school or the teacher has to file a complaint then we will investigate”.

The investigations according to the Ag. PRO includes inviting the suspects.

“We can invite the suspects which neutralizes the threat but the decision to provide him police protection at his residence will depend on our findings”.
