The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University has appointed Professor Abass Braimah as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.
“Professor Abass takes over from the acting Vice-Chancellor, Engineer Dr. Abdul-Manan Dauda who has been at the helm of affairs since the institution’s conversion to a Technical University in 2018”, a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate has said.
The appointment was done at the 7th Governing Council meeting held on the 26th June, in Tamale which takes effect on July 1.
The Governing Council also appointed AlhajivYakubu Iddrisu as Registrar and Alhaji Alhassan Abdul Razak as Director of Finance respectively.
Until his appointment, Professor Braimah was an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University in Canada.
He has a wealth of experience from the private sector, Government sector and academia. Professor Braimah has served as Associate Director of the Ottawa Carleton Institute of Civil Engineering in 2016 and from 2017-2018 he was the Director of Infrastructure Protection and International Security Program at Carleton University.
He took a position in 2001 as a Resource Person at the Canadian Explosives Research Laboratory where he was responsible for advising the Canadian Government on the protection of critical infrastructure in Canada and abroad.
Professor Braimah graduated with a PhD and MSc. in Civil Engineering in 2000 and 1996
respectively at the Queen’s University in Ottawa, Canada.
He also obtained an MSc. in Structures in 1992 from the Higher Institute of Architecture in Bulgaria. Professor Braimah is a native of Tamale. By his appointment, he is expected to assume duty on 1st August, 2020.
