Metallurgical Manager of Gold Fields Ghana, Damang Mine in the Western region, Engineer Catherine Kuupol Kuutor has been awarded Personality of the Year at the 2021 Women in Mining and Energy Awards held in Accra. She was also honoured with the Exemplary Leadership Award.
The awards ceremony sought to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of women in the mining and energy sectors of Ghana. It also sought to create awareness of the importance and need for the inclusion of women in the sectors.
Ing. Kuutor in 2019 was among the 100 Most Influential Personalities from northern Ghana. She was named Female Mining Professional of the Year at the 6th Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA) in 2020 for her immense contribution to the productivity and success of the Damang mine in 2019.
She is the first female to be appointed to the position of Metallurgical Manager since Gold Fields commenced operations in West Africa. Prior to joining Gold Fields Ghana, Ing. Kuutor worked with Golden Star Resources at Tarkwa.
The native of Nandom Fielmua in the Upper West region has over sixteen (16) years of experience working as a metallurgical engineer in Ghana’s mining sector. She is currently studying for a PhD in Mining Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT).
